Celebrating Another Good Year with Good Life and Doña Elena!

Edit Posted by with No comments
Early this month, I celebrated another good year with Good Life and Doña Elena! :)

I thank God for giving me another good year to celebrate life. I am indeed grateful for all the things that he has given me, most especially the gift of life, the gift of family and the gift of friends...

We just have a simple celebration at home together with my husband, daughter, sister-in-law and her son and one of my best friend for more than 10 years...

I am not that good in cooking but I am blessed to have a husband and a sister-in-law who are great in cooking. Cooking Pasta is my sister-in-law's specialty and so she is the one who cooked it using the ingredients from Doña Elena which are the following: Al Dente Pasa Excellente Penne Rigate, Diced Tomato and Olive Oil. Other ingredients are the ground beef, sliced hotdogs, spaghetti sauce, minced onions and garlic, salt and pepper.

It taste really good and Doña Elena Al Dente pasta lives up to its name as being "al dente" or "firm to the bite".

My hubby also prepared Sinuglaw marinated in Good Life's Sesame Oil, soy sauce, pepper, garlic, and calamansi.

We grilled the  pork and chopped it and then we added the sliced cucumbers and onions. The Good Life Sesame Oil can also be added into sauces as a seasoning, or use it to finish cooked dishes for that extra hint of smokiness.

This is the healthy salad that my hubby also prepared, it has lettuce, tomatoes, cucumber, grapes, hard boiled egg with squeezed dalandan. The sauce which I haven't got the chance to take a photo of, is mixture of the following: mayonnaise, honey, squeezed dalandan, pepper, pinch of salt and sugar..

It was a happy day and I was surprised because I didn't expect that they have a surprise for me. They've bought brownies from our neighbor, which taste really good by the way. Then, I blow the candle and make a wish... :)

I am so thankful to have my family and thank you to everyone who greeted me on my birthday. Thank you also to Fly Ace Corporation for sharing the Good Life and Doña Elena products to us... Check out Good Life and Doña Elena Cusinera Club at Facebook for more of their products, recipes, tips, updates and more! :)

Herbal Steam Inhalation: Natural Home Remedy for Nasal Congestion

Edit Posted by with No comments
My daughter, Miel has colds and cough (due to postnasal drip) again last week. So, 3 days ago we tried to make a homemade remedy to ease stuffy nose or nasal congestion. It is a tip we had from our good neighbor.

Oregano and Vicks Vaprub

Good thing we have a lot of Oregano plants in our front and backyard so we make use of it and picked a handful of leaves. We washed the Oregano leaves and crushed it, then we add boiling water and Vicks Vaporub. After we mixed them all, we let my daughter breathe in the steam for a while.

After the Herbal Steam Inhalation with Oregano and Vicks Vaporub Steam, Miel still has cough and colds but the day after, she doesn't cough that much and today, she's okay and don't have cough and colds anymore. I think this herbal steam inhalation is really effective to ease stuffy nose and I guess for coughs too! And all we need are these 3 things: Oregano leaves, Boiling Water and Vicks Vaporub...

But, if you don't have Oregano, you can also try Peppermint, Eucalyptus, Thyme, Sage and Ginger (I haven't tried it though but if I'll have, I'll surely try it).

This is so easy and an effective home remedy, we were really surprised at how effective it was for us. I hope it can help others too that's why I blogged about this. :)

What worked for us might not worked for everyone, so if you're child is not feeling better, you can try to consult her/his Pediatrician to check her/him thoroughly... And by the way, when doing the Herbal Steam Inhalation, let your child stay still and be careful not to let your child play around because she/he might get hurt by the boiling/hot water.

Calamansi and Honey Juice - A Natural Way to Cure Cough and Colds

Edit Posted by with No comments
When I was still a kid, my grandmother would make us Calamansi and Honey juice whenever we have cough, colds, or both. It's natural and effective in our experience... Now that I became a mother, as much as I wanted to, I don't like my daughter to take a lot of medicines especially Antibiotics or Antibacterial medicines, but there's always an exception if worst comes to worst. If possible I try to make juices out of natural products like Calamansi and Honey

Both Honey and Calamansi has antibacterial and antiviral properties and calamansi is high in Vitamin C which is good for boosting our immune system. I don't have to worry letting my daughter drink calamansi and honey juice because it's natural and proven to be effective, in our experience. Unless your kid is allergic to any of the two, then you shouldn't let them take it.

Recently, Miel had cough and colds, so, we bought calamansi and honey. It's actually my first time to buy honey in the supermarket and it's also our first time to try the Mt. Apo Honey which is actually made in here Davao. We usually buy honey from our neighbor before but we just moved far away from the place we used to live, so I opted to buy honey in the supermarket instead. ;)

Anyway, I made Calamansi and Honey juice for my Miel and I hope her cough will be gone soon..

Protecting My Family From Dengue-Causing Mosquitoes

Edit Posted by with No comments
It's rainy season once again and there are so many cases of dengue in today's news and most of them are children. As a parent I can't help myself from worrying about this. I want to Protect my family from these Dengue-Causing mosquitoes.

First, What is Dengue?
Dengue is a debilitating viral disease of the tropics, transmitted by mosquitoes, and causing sudden fever and acute pains in the joints. [Source: www.google.com]
What causes Dengue fever?

The bite of an Aedes aegypti (yellow fever) mosquito, infected with any one of the four dengue viruses. When a mosquito bites a person infected with a dengue virus, the virus enters the mosquito. When the infected mosquito then bites another person, the virus enters that person's bloodstream.

What are the signs and symptoms?
  • Sudden onset of high fever which may last from 2 to 7 days.
  • Joint and muscle pain and pain behind the eyes
  • Weakness
  • Skin rashes
  • Nose-bleeding when fever starts to subside
  • Abdominal pain
  • Vomiting of coffee-colored matter
  • Dark-colored stools
  • Difficulty of breathing
Treatment:
  • Do not give aspirin for fever.
  • Give sufficient amount of water or re-hydrate a dengue suspect.
  • If fver or symptoms persists for 2 or more days, bring the patient to teh nearest hospital.
Are there any ways to prevent and control dengue?

Here's a very helpful advisory from the Department of Health (www.doh.gov.ph): Follow the 4S against Dengue.

I hope everyone will participate in this fight against dengue...

As for our family, here's what we have tried to prevent from being bitten by mosquitoes. We use a spray (sometimes we use Baygon and sometimes Mortein), we've also tried mosquito repellent lotions from Off and Green Cross but it only lasts for 8 hours maximum.

So, we opted for the mosquito repellent patch  like Moskishield which is deet-free and lasts up to 24 hours and aside from that we also use the natural mosquito repellent which is also deet-free from Human Nature...

So far, those are the products that we have used and been using and I am quite satisfied with them. I hope that these Dengue-Causing Mosquitoes will be gone soon.

ASUS ZenFone 3 Laser and ZenFone 3 Max Available this August 2016

Edit Posted by with No comments

The Zenfone 3 family just got bigger and bolder! ASUS Philippines confirms the arrival of its newest addition to the ZenFone 3 smartphone series, the ZenFone 3 Laser and ZenFone3 Max together with the three phones slated to launch in August in the country.

Beauty and Elegance Inside Out

The ZenFone 3 Laser and Zenfone 3 Max features a 13MP camera with the latest Sony IMX214 sensor that captures stunning photos without any lag. The ZenFone 3 Laser in particular is able to achieve focus in just 0.03 seconds, and its laser has an operational range of 1.5, twice compared to other smartphones.

This camera also has an industry-leading Low Light mode with pixel-merging technology that captures 400%-brighter photos at night or in extreme low-light scenes – all that without the need for any flash.

Meanwhile, their Backlight (Super HDR) mode can see through daytime shadow with superb clarity, while its Super Resolution mode captures detailed images at resolutions of up to 52MP.

The 5.5-inch ZenFone 3 Laser and 5.2-inch ZenFone 3 Max sport a sophisticated aluminum alloy with design elements that add visual aesthetics and an easy, comfortable grip.

Both phones have a finely sandblasted matt surface and a gently rounded edge, combined with a refined metallic-chamfered edge surrounding its display.

Both also sport the quintessential and ergonomic fingerprint sensor placed near the top of its rear panel, allowing the index finger to naturally rest on it. The fingerprint sensor allows it to rapidly unlock the phone, using authentication by other apps.

ZenFone 3 Laser is available in two attractive colors to complement even the most-color conscious attire: glacier silver and sand gold. While the ZenFone 3 Max is available in three attractive colors: titanium gray, glacier silver, and sand gold.

Extreme Performance and Longevity

The ZenFone 3 Laser boasts a powerful Snapdragon 430 octa-core processor, 4GB of RAM and 32GB of storage that will be able to satisfy everyone’s entertainment needs, that is also backed with one of the loudest and clearest speakers in its class because of the magnets used in its voice coils that have an extremely strong magnetic flux.

Meanwhile, the ZenFone 3 Max offers longevity like no other with its 4130mAh battery that provides up to 30 days of standby time, and the ability to turn into a power bank with reverse-charging capabilities offering high-speed charging of other devices, it is also equipped with a powerful Quad-Core 64 bit processor running at 1.25Ghz complimented with a Mali T720 graphics processor.

An Incredible Smartphone Innovation

Blogger's Basic Baking Workshop at Philippine Baking Institute

Edit Posted by with No comments
I haven't been into any baking workshops before, I just tried and experimented on my own. A few of the recipes that I've tried were from my sister who had been into baking too and had attended formal lessons and workshops on how to bake. I was inspired by her works and that's where my interest in baking started.

It was all new to me and I had to search some of the terminologies used in baking. :)

I really liked baking and wanted to learn more about it, so when the opportunity was given, I immediately grabbed it. Last May 28, 2016, I was one of the bloggers who attended the 1 Day Basic Baking Workshop at Philippine Baking Institute, Inc.

The workshop started with a lecture about baking and bread making which was presented by one of the instructors of Philippine Baking Institute, Mr. Francis Louie C. Mangubat.

He tackled about the basic baking principles, methods in bread baking, uses and limitations of formulas and recipes and bakeshop math.
After the lecture, we were assigned into 3 groups and we had an experiment in making the loaf bread. One group will have no yeast in their ingredients, the others will have no margarine and no water while the last group will have the complete ingredients.
We tried the manual process of kneading the bread dough and it was really hard! Making bread isn't that easy as what I thought it was, but it was a fun learning experience.

So, this is how our dough looked like before baking...

And this is how our loaf bread looked like after baking... See the difference? :D

After making the loaf breads, we made...

Pandesal

Sweet and tasty Spanish bread

and the fluffy, creamy and cheesy Ensaymada...

After making the breads, Mr. Steven Mathew Lim taught us how to bake brownies, butterscotch and pineapple tart.

I really enjoyed the workshop and learned a lot from the instructors. Making bread and pastry is fun especially when you're with the members of the Davao Bloggers Society. Thank you Philippine Baking Institute for this opportunity! :)

If you want to learn the art and science of baking, you can check out Philippine Baking Institute's Courses and Programs:

Philippine Baking Institute is a premier institute and TESDA accredited training center, offering you a unique opportunity to learn the art & science of baking.  With its holistic approach, students are not just taught on the technical aspects of baking but to include the necessary skills required in the baking industries such as management, entrepreneurial, leadership, practical, and social skills. They are located at Ecoland Drive, Matina, Davao City.

Zip Line at Outland Adventure Davao City

Edit Posted by with No comments
The Xcelerator Zip Line

This was my first Zip Line experience at Outland Adventure. This is 5 years ago, yeah, I'm still single at that time. LOL. I had to make a post about this because I lost my old post when I forgot to renew my domain 5 years ago. Yeah, silly me, I got too busy and didn't spend much time checking my emails or going online.

So, I'm making another post now about my  Zip Line experience. I was really nervous at that time because I am afraid of heights. It was an amazing experience for me because I have somehow overcome my fear of heights and I also have experienced to ride in one of the longest zip lines here in Davao City. The view was breathtaking too which I only get to notice when I was in the middle of the line.

After zipping, my knees were shaking but I feel good inside. It's a good feeling knowing you just did what you thought you couldn't do. The experience was worth it and yeah, it was awesome! :)

If you are an adventurous person, try and experience their Zip Line and other services.

Outland Adventure is open on:

Wed-Sat: 8:00 am - 5:00 pm
Sun: 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm

They're Closed on Monday and Tuesday.

They're located at Purok 7 Mahayahay, Diversion Road, Barangay Langub, 8000 Davao City.

You can check out the Outland Adventure Facebook page for more information.  :)

ASUS Zenfone Max

Edit Posted by with No comments
I really like ASUS Zenfone Max! Simply because of its battery performance... Yup! It has a 5000mAh battery that can last for days and you can also use it as a power bank in case your other gadgets needed charging.

I really don't care much of the other specifications of a cellphone, what matter most to me is its battery life... My phone sucks! I hate that its battery couldn't last a day or even half a day! That's why I always bring a power bank whenever I go out. But there are times that I forgot to charge my power bank and so my phone dies and it sucks when you have an important call or message that you had to respond to and your phone's dead.

When I first heard of ASUS Zenfone Max last February, I got excited when I read it's features online... I really wanted to have one! Hahahaha!

Here's ASUS Zenfone Max Specifications:
  • Display: 5.5", 1280 x 720 (HD) IPS display with Gorilla Glass 4
  • Operating System: Android 5.0 Lollipop with Asus ZenUI
  • Processor: Qualcomm MSM8916
  • Camera (Rear l Front): 13MP with autofocus l 5MP
  • Memory (RAM l ROM): 2GB l 16GB
  • Connectivity: WiFi 802.11n, Wi-Fi Direct, Bluetooth v4.0
  • SIM: Dual
  • Battery: 5000mAh, lithium-ion
I like that it has a dual sim... I can use my personal sim and the other one for business in just one phone, just like the one I am using now... but it's battery sucks! Hahaha! I mentioned it again... Well, been mentioning that for quite a while now... hoping... and praying... that hubby will get tired of me talking about it and just buy me a Zenfone Max! Hahahaha! I wish!
